European Commission suggests that insiders should be protected by law. Those who inform authorities and journalists about violations, such as fraud, data leakage and so on may feel free to contact the officials.

Insider protection would be introduced in such fields as financial service, nuclear and food industry security, government procurement as well as organisations responsible for personal data processing.

There will be regulations which will make companies create special communication channels for insiders. The informers could rely on legal and even financial assistance, while employers will not be able to sue or dismiss them.

"There should be no punishment for doing the right thing," Commission Vice President Francs Timmermans tells Business Insider. "In addition, today's proposals also protect those who act as sources for investigative journalists, helping to ensure that freedom of expression and freedom of the media are defended in Europe."

10 European countries have already adopted the law protecting insiders against repressions. To have the project come into force all 28 EU member countries should sign it.
