FBI apprehended a Russian instigator who unfolded an intent to intrude a US company network. The conspiracy implied installation of malware by a local employee who worked for that Nevada-based organisation.
The US employee was bribed by the Russian and was to introduce a malicious software into the system manually. The communication between the employee and the violator, who came to the USA as a tourist, was conducted via Whatsapp, where the sensitive information concerning the company’s network was exchanged.
The company’s data was to be extracted with the help of the malware and then used in blackmail – a ransom should be paid to the accomplices, otherwise the data would get exposed.
A DDoS attack was going to be incited in order to distract specialists’ and managers’ attention while the malware would be installed to capture the confidential information.
