Capgemini - an IT solution provider - is blamed to be the culprit of an incident. Razer representatives state, that Capgemini employee’s actions have led to a security misconfiguration. The personal data of about 100,000 Razer customers was at a stake of being exposed. It was reported, that sensitive data on credit card numbers and passwords wasn’t leaked. However, order details, customer and shipping information may have been obtained.
The security problem remained unsolved for three months, from June to September 2020. Razer estimates losses and expenditures as of at least US$7 million.
The incident happened due to a database misconfiguration. Thus, this security issue remains one of the most common prerequisites for data leaks.
