Former FBI director, James Comey, took confidential data home after he left the bureau. He claimed that considered the documents personal and not governmental. Moving data outside the office perimeter is violation of FBI policies.

Every organisation has a set of rules and strict policies but there is no point in them if they are being bypassed. The compliance with them and conformity to the regulation should be controlled automatically.

James Comey allegedly gave one of such memos to his friend supplying it with a brief guidance on delivering data to a reporter.

The news is surprising as it poses many questions to the FBI security level and data protection measures. FBI former and current employees have access to some secret information which shouldn’t be made public.

During the case investigation it was also stated that the exposure of secret data with the purpose of fulfilling any personal ambitions is against the law.
