Today we will talk about the UAE authorities' warnings regarding malicious advertising and... sharing secrets with ChatGPT.
The UAE Cyber Security Council has issued a warning about the growing threat of malicious ads, or “malvertising,” which can be faced even on trusted websites. These so-called ads, often disguised as legitimate promotions, can trick users into downloading malware, leading to data theft, fraud, or device hacking. The threat is growing globally as hackers embed malicious software in ads to exploit even widely trusted platforms that rely on third-party advertising agencies. The council advises users to be skeptical of unwanted offers, avoid clicking on ads, use reliable antivirus software, update browser and system security, and regularly monitor financial transactions to protect against these cyber threats.
Besides, the police of Dubai have warned residents about the risks of sharing personal and sensitive information using such AI tools as ChatGPT. Major Abdulla Al Sheikhi, Acting Director of the Cybercrime Department, said that while these platforms are convenient for tasks like research and writing letters, users may unknowingly expose themselves to cyber threats by sharing them too often. AI tools can collect and store personal data, making them vulnerable to exploitation by cybercriminals. To protect against these risks, Dubai Police recommends limiting the sharing of personal data, ensuring platform security, using AI responsibly, staying informed about cyber threats, and reporting any suspicious activity.
Unfortunately, feeding chatbots with sensitive information is becoming something routine for employees as these tools speed up processes. However, confidential information must be secure, no matter how much you are rushing to meet deadlines. That is why we recommend you consider implementing a managed security service. MSS will help you ensure data security without a budget burden and the need to hire and maintain IS specialists. Follow the link to see if this service is a perfect fit for your company.
