Indian Bank Investigates Data Breach Linked to an Employee Email CompromiseIndia's state-owned Bank of Baroda has opened an investigation into a leak of customer and internal data following the compromise of a corporate email account belonging to one of its employees. The bank confirmed that attackers gained unauthorised access to information through the hacked mailbox. The core banking system that processes customer accounts and financial transactions was not affected and continues to operate as normal.
The incident came to light after a set of files was advertised on the dark web. According to Reuters, the listing offered more than 700 GB of data, while The Asian Banker put the figure at one terabyte. The bank has not yet disclosed either the actual volume of stolen information or the number of customers the incident may have affected.
Various reports indicate that the published material included customer details, identification documents, loan papers and internal audit records. Indian media said the samples also contained customer names, photographs, Aadhaar details, account-opening forms and account information.
The wider dataset was reported to contain records linked to savings and current accounts, net banking users, non-resident Indian customers, corporate banking services, branches and ATMs.
At the time of publication, it had not been established whether passwords, payment credentials, PINs or other authentication data had also been exposed. The combination of identity documents, photographs and bank account details can be used for identity fraud, social engineering and targeted phishing attacks. The actual level of risk will depend on the authenticity of the published files and on the exact composition of the compromised data.
Bank of Baroda stated that it had taken initial containment measures, launched a digital forensic investigation and is cooperating with the relevant government authorities. The investigation is expected to determine the precise scale of the leak, identify the customers affected and establish whether the published data has been used in fraud schemes.
Japanese semiconductor manufacturer Renesas Electronics has filed a lawsuit against the US company Navitas and two of its own former employees. Renesas alleges that confidential materials relating to the development of next-generation power semiconductors were passed to the competitor and used in its product development and in shaping its new market strategy.
The claim was filed on 22 July 2026 in a federal court in California. Alongside Navitas, the defendants are Navitas CEO Christopher Allexandre and executive Felicia Cheng, both formerly employed by Renesas.
According to Renesas, the former employees obtained and handed over confidential PowerPoint presentations. These contained trade secrets, including details of products under development, their technical specifications, market release timelines, prospective customers and commercial opportunities.
Renesas further claims that shortly after Allexandre was appointed CEO of Navitas, the competitor unveiled a strategy called Navitas 2.0. In the plaintiff's view, it replicated confidential Renesas plans, targeting the same technologies, customer categories and market opportunities. The company argues that access to this information could have allowed the competitor to learn its technical objectives and development schedules in advance, bring comparable products to market faster and gain an advantage in the contest for contracts worth billions of dollars.
Renesas is seeking damages, the amount of which has not been specified, along with an injunction against any further use of the materials. As reported by Reuters, the allegations have not been proven in court at the time of publication.
