14.02.2019

16 online platforms got breached compromising 617 million accounts. HauteLook, Animoto, EyeEM, 8fit, Whitepages, Fotolog, 500px, Armor Games, BookMate, Dubsmash, MyFitnessPal, MyHeritage, ShareThis, CoffeeMeetsBael, Artsy and DataCamp were accessed by hackers who had put a $20,000 price on the personal details uploaded to the dark web. The data included email addresses, passwords and names.

500px, a Canadian photosharing platform, had got its database invaded on July 5, 2018 although the breach was discovered on February 8, 2019. Almost 15 million users – the full base – had their personal information exposed. Names, email addresses, gender, passwords were among the details leaked.

All the users have been required to reset their passwords. 500px is sending all the stored information to its users within 72 hours after a request is made.

The platform needs to improve its protection system and has approached a security firm to conduct a profound investigation.
